Firefighters contain brush fire in East Union Twp.

EAST UNION TOWNSHIP – Firefighters have been on the scene of a large brush fire in the area of the Locust Ridge Wind Farm in East Union Township since about 2:00pm Thursday afternoon.

Fire crews from across northern Schuylkill County have been assisting state DCNR Forestry crews throughout the afternoon as they work to contain the blaze.

Firefighters also had the weather working against them, with temperatures in the high 80s and wind gusts as high as 20mph.

Fire crews from Ringtown, Sheppton-Oneida, Nuremberg-Weston, Shenandoah, Shenandoah Heights, William Penn, Altamont, Girardville, Gordon, Llewellyn, among others, were on scene throughout the day, along with crews from DCNR.

A DCNR firefighter was treated at the scene for dehydration.

At the time of publication (7:36pm), all units have been released from the scene except Shenandoah Heights Fire and a Ringtown tanker.
