Fire wrecks storage building at Leiby’s Dairy overnight, causes $1M+ in damage
LEWISTOWN – A storage building was destroyed by fire at the Leiby’s Dairy facility in the Lewistown Valley early Saturday morning.
Flames broke out around 3:30am at the dairy on Mountain Road in Walker Township.
State Police said a newspaper carrier saw smoke coming from one of the buildings and called 911.
Firefighters from the New England Fire Company of Walker Township, among others from across Schuylkill and Carbon Counties, arrived and found the smoke condition.
A second alarm was struck for tankers and manpower as water was shuttled from a farm to the fire.
Flames eventually led to the collapse of the building, which state troopers said was used for storage and on-site wastewater treatment equipment.
The building, troopers said, is a total loss and damage is estimated to exceed $1 Million.
The cause remains under investigation, troopers said.
