POTTSVILLE – Schuylkill County’s 911 center is fully operational again after nearly a day-long outage for some of the 911 phone lines.

The outage was first reported around 4:30pm Thursday as the communications center directed all fire companies in the county to be manned until further notice.

Outages were soon reported in neighboring Columbia, Northumberland, and Carbon Counties.

The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency reported Thursday evening that the outage, through the Verizon network, impacted the majority of northeastern Pennsylvania.

The Schuylkill County Office of Emergency Management said Friday that the outage was caused by a burned fiber cable. As a work-around during the outage, some 911 calls to Schuylkill County were routed to the Berks County 911 Center.

As of 12:30pm Friday, the repairs were completed and 911 services were restored, both PEMA and the county reported.
