911 outage impacts Schuylkill, neighboring counties; fire stations in Schuylkill, North’d to be manned until further notice
UPDATE 6:57pm: Schuylkill and neighboring counties are impacted by a 911 service outage Thursday evening.
An alert over the Schuylkill County Communications Center radio system around 4:30pm directed all fire and EMS stations in the county to be manned until further notice, noting the 911 system was down.
According to radio communications, the 911 cell phone lines were reported to be down in Schuylkill County, while landlines and VoIP services were still operable.
Anyone with an emergency in Schuylkill County is asked to call or report to their local fire station. In Shenandoah, as of 6:30pm, the Phoenix, Polish American, and Rescue Hook and Ladder stations were staffed, as was the Rangers Hose Co. in Girardville and the Heights Fire Co. in Shenandoah Heights.
Neighboring Columbia County’s system is also down, along with Montour’s, according to the Locust Township Police Department, which covers Numidia, along with Cleveland, Franklin and Roaring Creek Townships. They ask residents to call their wireless number, 570-817-5925 for Police, Fire or EMS Emergencies in their coverage area.
Carbon and Northumberland Counties also reported outages Thursday evening, and the latter requested stations be manned.

The alert came as storms were blowing through the region and caused major power outages in the Pottsville and Minersville areas.
According to radio communications, the 911 cell phone lines were reported to be down, while landlines and VoIP services were still operable.
Anyone with an emergency is asked to report to their local fire station to report it.
