Borough approves trash, sewer increases, support for county parks grant application

SHENANDOAH – Trash and sewer bills are going up in town.

Council approved the increases to both fees at a special meeting Monday evening.

Fees will be $332 per year for residential trash collection, and $135 per quarter for sewer service.

The trash increase is the result of increased fees at the transfer station, Tony Sajone, borough manager, said.

Council also approved a letter supporting Schuylkill County VISION’s grant application to the Safe Routes Partnership for the Activating Communities program.

“The funding supports planning assistance to develop and initiate action plans to increase safe and equitable access to parks and green spaces in our community,” the letter says. “Schuylkill County’s VISION will work closely with the borough of Shenandoah to engage community members in the process of assessing park access, putting together an action plan to address barriers and begin implementing that plan.”

The vast majority of Shenandoah residents live within a 10-minute walk of a park, according to Trust for Public Land’s ParkScore, and Shenandoah is identified as a DEP Environmental Justice Area/
