HAZLE TWP., Luzerne County – No major damage was reported after a small electrical fire at a building housing a Chinese restaurant and a cosmetology school near Hazleton.

Fire crews from Hazle Township and Harwood were called to the Jumbo China Buffet building at 1057 North Church Street in Hazle Township shortly after 10:00pm.

“We just had a small electrical fire on the roof,” Deputy Chief Jason Bridge, Hazle Twp. Fire, told the Sentinel.

A second alarm was struck, drawing firefighters from Sugarloaf, Valley Regional, McAdoo, Hazleton, Freeland, among others, to the scene.

Bridge said the second alarm was precautionary, partly because of an initial lack of manpower and partly because of the size of the building, which was formerly a movie theater.

The fire was extinguished quickly, and firefighters remained on scene ventilating the two businesses, Jumbo, and Jolie Health and Beauty Academy.
