New Castle considering disbanding police force
ARNOTS ADDITION – Another Schuylkill County community is planning to disband its police force.
New Castle Township, if an advertised ordinance is approved next month, will follow Tremont’s lead in disbanding its small police force.
“An ordinance of New Castle Township abolishing, terminating, and disbanding the New Castle Township Police Department” was advertised Wednesday. The ordinance would instead implement full-time State Police coverage for the township.
According to the public notice, township supervisors will vote on the matter on Feb. 4 at 7:00pm.
As of July, the township had two part-time officers and was planning to hire more.
