Bystander tackles skid-steer fire with garden hose

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - A bystander sprays down the engine compartment of a skid-steer in Shenandoah Heights as he awaits the arrival of firefighters.

SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – A skid-steer fire was out by the time firefighters arrived, thanks to the quick thinking of a bystander.

Just before 2:00pm, emergency crews were called to 70 Schuylkill Avenue for reports of a vehicle fire.

West Mahanoy Township Police were first on scene, finding a bystander with a garden hose spraying the engine compartment of a parked skid-steer.

The man had contained and extinguished the fire by that point.

Shenandoah Heights Fire arrived on scene shortly after and confirmed that the fire was completely out.

No one was injured, and crews were clear of the scene in short order.

Also responding to the scene was Shenandoah Ambulance.
