Man shot by raccoon trap in Luzerne
HIGHLAND, Luzerne County – A man was shot by a mechanism fashioned to kill raccoons on Sept. 4 in this Foster Township village near Freeland.
State Police at Hazleton said they responded to an accidental shooting on Sawmill Road around 8:00pm Sept. 4.
Troopers found an SD Card at the scene, which showed that the victim had a mechanism inside a box trap, designed to shoot raccoons as they approached the trap.
They added that they believe the man was loading the mechanism into the trap when it fired and struck him in the left hand.
He was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Hazleton for treatment for injuries.
The Pennsylvaia State Game Commission is also investigating.
