Baseball is back in northern Schuylkill
FRACKVILLE – Northern Schuylkill County’s Little League and Teener teams have been back on the field for the past week or so, marking the first youth sports games since the coronavirus pandemic began.
Local little leagues opened play early last week, with Ashland beginning on June 22 and Shenandoah and Frackville two days later.
Teener league began play this past Saturday, June 27.
On Friday, June 26, Frackville Little League hosted a game between the Whipps and Pizza Place.
Matthew Klingerman, president of Frackville Little League, gave credit to the coaches and players for their patience in waiting for the season to begin.
“I think everybody’s having a great time,” Klingerman said, regarding the reaction to the season beginning.
Today, Shenandoah’s Mrs. T’s teener team was in action, facing Frackville at Memorial Field, while Ashland Little League hosted a double-header at Toewe-Rebuck Field at Eureka Park.
Frackville defeated Shenandoah 13-3 in the teener bout.
At Ashland, game one, at 5:30pm, featured the Dodgers and Phillies while game two, at 7:30, featured the Athletics and the Yankees.
Social distancing has been implemented where possible in each league, including adjusting and expanding dugout areas beyond the dugout building itself, in some cases.
