Small fire breaks out in east end garage

SHERRY STREETER / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - Shenandoah fire marshals look over the damage done to a garage on East Arlington Street after a small fire.

SHENANDOAH – Little damage was done to a garage on Shenandoah’s east side Wednesday afternoon, thanks to the quick work of firefighters and homeowners with a garden hose.

Firefighters were called to the 300 block of East Lloyd Street around 5:40pm for a garage fire. The garage, however, was on East Arlington Street, the alleyway behind Lloyd.

Shenandoah Fire Marshal Rick Examitas cited the cause as accidental, sparked by work being done on a motorcycle.

“The family had a garden hose, trying to extinguish the fire prior to our arrival,” Examitas told the Sentinel.

No one was injured, and minimal damage was done to the building.

Firefighters from all five Shenandoah fire companies responded, and were clear of the seen within an hour.
