NORTHERN SCHUYLKILL – The following is a compilation of police incidents handled and reported by the Pennsylvania State Police in and around northern Schuylkill County.
Hazleton pair cited for taking walk in Eagle Rock
BLACK CREEK TWP., Luzerne County – A pair from Hazleton are facing trespassing charges for taking a walk in a gated community along the Schuylkill County line.
State Police at Hazleton said that, around 2:30pm April 23, troopers cited Ahyllen Pena Zabala, 29, and Luis Garcia Rodriguez, 22, both of Hazleton for trespassing at Eagle Rock Resort.
Troopers said the two were found walking around the development by Eagle Rock Security.
Charges were filed in Magisterial District Judge Daniel O’Donnell’s office.
PSP: Wanted borough man tried to flee in Girardville
GIRARDVILLE – A borough man is in Schuylkill County Prison after he tried to run from a traffic stop on April 21.
Troopers said the stop happened around 7:00am in the 300 block of North 2nd Street in Girardville.
Troopers stopped a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by 21-year-old Emily Ferrari of Girardville.
A passenger, Dillon Fogarty, 27, of Shenandoah, was wanted in Northumberland County. When troopers tried to take him into custody, he tried to run and began resisting arrest.
Troopers brought him to the ground and took him into custody. The arresting officer received injuries to his hands.
Fogarty was charged with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Marijuana, and Drug Paraphernalia and committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post $25,000 bail.
Ferrari was arrested under suspicion for DUI.
Wanted Lewistown man fled traffic stop, entered Frackville home
FRACKVILLE – A Lewistown man is facing burglary and trespassing charges in addition to traffic offenses after he fled a traffic stop on foot and ran into someone’s house in Frackville.
Troopers from the State Police at Frackville said the incident happened on April 20 around 8:30pm when troopers stopped an erratic driver in the borough of Frackville.
The man, identified as Shawn Bryner, 33, of Lewistown, fled on foot and was found a few blocks south of the traffic stop location.
Prior to his arrest, he had made entry into someone’s home in the borough, and additionally proceeded to provide troopers with a false name.
Troopers said Bryner had two outstanding bench warrants from Mifflin County, and showed signs of impairment. He was arrested under suspicion of DUI, and found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.
Charges for Burglary, Criminal Trespass, DUI, Flight to Avoid Apprehension, Loitering, among others, were filed in Magisterial District Judge Christina Hale’s office. He was committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $25,000 bail.
Mt. Carmel man assaulted on overnight walk in Centralia
CENTRALIA, Columbia County – A Northumberland County man out for a walk in Centralia was reportedly assaulted and robbed on April 15.
State Police at Bloomsburg said around 3:00am April 15, Gary Kozock, 63, of Mt. Carmel was out for a walk to visit a local cemetery when he was contacted by a man reporting a vehicle malfunction in the area of Locust Avenue and Park Street.
Kozock approached the man and was attacked from behind by another man. He was then struck multiple times by both parties, who swiped his pistol and cell phone before fleeing in an unknown vehicle.
Kozock was transported to Geisinger Medical Center in Montour County for treatment of his injuries.

Mining equipment damaged near Middleport
MIDDLEPORT – State Police at Frackville are investigating damage to a mining dragline near Middleport.
The incident happened some time between midnight April 12 and 6:00pm April 19, according to State Police at Frackville.
Troopers said an unknown actor broke out several windows on the dragline.

Driver without license backed into car in Hazleton Dunkin’ drive-thru
HAZLE TWP., Luzerne County – A driver was cited after he backed into another car in the drive-thru of Dunkin’ Donuts in Hazle Township .
State Police at Hazleton said the crash happened around 5:00pm April 23 at the location at 1190 North Church Street.
Troopers arrived to find a 2016 Honda Civic had backed into a 2017 Jeep Compass.
The Honda had no visible damage, though the Jeep had minor visible damage.
Troopers reported they were told the Honda’s driver, Jairo Manuel Moronta-Sanchez stopped in front of the ordering microphone and attempted to back up so he could place his order, and didn’t see the Jeep behind him.
Neither Moronta-Sanchez or the Jeep’s driver, Allen Bubeck, were injured.
Moronta-Sanchez was cited for driving without a license.
Pottsville man missed stop sign, hit embankment in Llewellyn
LLEWELLYN – A Pottsville man was uninjured after he struck a dirt embankment in this Branch Township village on April 22.
The crash happened just before midnight at Bunting Street and South West Lawn Road, troopers from the Schuylkill Haven barracks said.
Bailey Warunek, 20, of Pottsville was headed east on South West Lawn Road in a 2019 Chevy Impala at an unsafe speed, troopers said, and failed to stop at a stop sign while trying to turn left onto Bunting Street.
The vehicle left the right lane of the road and hit a dirt embankment.
Warunek will be cited for running the stop sign, troopers said.
Xanax stolen from car in Valley View
VALLEY VIEW – State Police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating the theft of a bottle of Xanax pills from a home in this Hegins Township village.
Troopers said the theft happened between 5:30pm April 22 and midnight April 23 in the 1100 block of West Walnut Street.
The bottle was swiped from a 2015 Chevy Silverado parked in the victim’s driveway.

Hegins man uninjured in Eldred Township rollover
ELDRED TWP. – A Hegins man escaped injury when his Subaru rolled on Route 125 in Eldred Township on April 23.
The crash happened around 7:00pm when Mitchell Masser, 26, of Hegins was headed north on Route 125 in a 2004 Subaru Impreza.
Masser crossed over the southbound lane in a turn and struck an embankment, causing the vehicle to roll onto its roof.
The Subaru was disabled though Masser was uninjured, troopers said. The vehicle was towed from the scene by A&F Towing.
Masser was not present at the scene, troopers said.
