NORTHERN SCHUYLKILL – The following is a compilation of incidents handled by state and local police in and around northern Schuylkill County recently.
Borough man arrested at Hometown Wal-Mart with warrants
HOMETOWN – A Shenandoah man was taken into custody at the Wal-Mart in this Rush Township village late Saturday night for outstanding warrants from Mahanoy Township.
State Police at Frackville said Jason Oshman, 32, of Shenandoah had an outstanding arrest warrant from the Mahanoy Township Police Department for pending drug charges.
He was taken into custody and arraigned before on-call Magisterial District Judge Steven Bayer and committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post $25,000 straight cash bail. Additional drug charges will be filed, troopers said.
Borough man facing assault charges after domestic incident in Girardville
GIRARDVILLE – A Shenandoah man is facing assault and harassment charges after police say he assaulted his fiance in this borough Saturday afternoon.
Girardville Police said they took Joseph Rush, 23, of Shenandoah into custody around 4:15pm after they say a domestic assault involving his fiance happened on West Main Street.
Rush was arraigned on simple assault and harassment charges and arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Steven Bayer. He was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
Girardville police investigating theft of $5,000 in tools
GIRARDVILLE – Police in Girardville are investigating a theft in the 300 block of ‘A’ Street reported on March 23.
Around 6:00pm, it was reported that $5,000 in tools — Craftsment toolboxes, an Impact Gun, Compound Miter Saw, Milwaukee Hammer Drill, Chop Saw, Bench Grinder, and more were swiped from the rear of 304 ‘A” Street.

Catawissa man facing theft charges in Snyder County
MONROE TWP., Snyder County – A Catawissa man is accused of swiping an impact driver and 20-volt battery charger from a Wal-Mart in Snyder County.
State Police at Selinsgrove say they were called to Walmart in Monroe Township around 7:00pm Sunday for reports f a theft.
They subsequently filed charges against Robert Drake, 47, of Catawissa.
Cumbola man uninjured in Frackville/St. Clair Grade crash
DARKWATER – A Cumbola man escaped injury when he struck a guiderail when trying to pass another car near Darkwater Friday afternoon.
The crash happened around 2:30pm, State Police at Frackville said, when William Whalen, 19, of Cumbola, was headed southbound on Route 61 in a 2009 Toyota Camry.
Troopers said Whalen was headed south in the left lane trying to pass another car when he lost control and hit a guiderail.
Whalen was uninjured, but his car had to be towed from the scene.
Hoffman’s Towing recovered the vehicle, and Frackville and Englewood firefighters responded to the scene.
New Philly home burglarized
NEW PHILADELPHIA – State Police at Frackville are investigating a burglary in the unit block of Wetherill Street.
Troopers said, that, between 12:30pm and 6:00pm Friday, an unknown actor entered a home at 1 Wetherill Street through a basement door.

Borough man strikes deer in Brandonville
BRANDONVILLE – A Shenandoah man escaped injury when he hit a deer in this East Union Township village late Friday.
The crash happened around 10:30pm Friday on Route 924 in the area of Rattlin Run Road.
State Police at Frackville said Steven Boehmer, 24, of Shenandoah was headed south on Route 924 in a 2012 GMC Terrain when a deer ran out into the road.
Boehmer was unable to stop in time and struck the deer.
Barnesville man charged for domestic incident
BARNESVILLE – A Barnesville man is facing assault, resisting arrest, and harassment charges after a domestic incident in this Ryan Township village late Sunday.
State Police at Frackville were called to a home on Barnesville Drive around 11:30pm Sunday night for reports of a domestic incident.
Troopers arrested Harold Allen, 51, of Barnesville for the incident.
Allen was arraigned on simple assault, resisting arrest, and harassment charges. He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Steven Bayer and committed to Schuylkill County Prison on $10,000 bail.
DUI, firearm, drug charges pending against New Philly man after crash
CUMBOLA – A New Philadelphia man is accused of driving under the influence of a controlled substance after a crash in this Blythe Township village on March 23.
The crash happened around 5:00am in the 100 block of Market Street, when Jacob Baddick, 27, of New Philadelphia was headed south on State Route 209 in a 1997 Oldsmobile Regency.
Troopers said he drifted over the double yellow line, over the fog line, and off the east side of the roadway, striking a rock wall and wooden fence.
Baddick then struck a 2016 Ram pickup parked legally in front of a residence.
After the impact, the Oldsmobile spun and came to a rest facing east.
Baddick was evaluated at the scene by ambulance personnel and refused transport for an evaluation.
Troopers said Baddick showed signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance and will face DUI charges, pending toxicology results.
Baddick was also in possession of a controlled substance and a loaded firearm without a valid permit to carry, troopers added.
