MAHANOY CITY – Volunteers fanned out across the county Friday, including in northern Schuylkill, for the Schuylkill United Way’s Capt. Jason B. Jones Memorial Day of Caring.
“Our whole mission revolves around supporting our Partner Agencies and Schuylkill County,” Mike Joyce, executive director, said of the event. “When do we get to see that in action with more than 300+ volunteers lending a hand all over the county?”
Volunteers tackled 16 community service projects across the county, helping the United Way’s 15 partner agencies and others.
The United Way says 275 adults and 50 high schoolers took part in this year’s event.
In northern Schuylkill, volunteers stopped by the Child Development centers in Fountain Springs, Mahanoy City, and Shenandoah for spring cleaning, shed painting, and flower planting.
Volunteers from Shenandoah also supported efforts around the county.

Mrs. T’s Pierogies had volunteers at the Schuylkill HOPE Center for Victims of Domestic Violence.
“At surface level, our SUW Day of Caring volunteers from Mrs. T’s, Brush Strokes, and EMD Electronics played an essential role today in preparing our Healing Garden for the upcoming warm season,” Sarah Barket, chief public affairs officer for the center, said. “More meaningfully, their time and care showed support for the survivors we serve by offering them and their families a safe place to spend time outside as they rebuild their lives free from abuse and the fear of violence. We’re grateful to be an SUW Partner Agency and to be able to be part of this incredible day.”
