Legislators present grant checks for East Union Township projects

SHEPPTON – Two state legislators visited a local municipality to present the checks for two major grants and hear about the planned projects.
State Rep. Dane Watro (R-Schuylkill/Luzerne) and State Senator Dave Argall (R-29) visited the East Union Township Municipal Building Thursday morning.
There, the two legislators presented ceremonial checks for a pair of grants the township was awarded.
East Union Township is receiving a $250,000 LSA grant to build a new township building and public works garage, as well as a $350,000 grant to add sidewalks and street lights along Center Street in Sheppton.
Supervisors Chairman Kyle Mummey told the Sentinel that plans are still being finalized for both projects. Officials, he said, plan to visit the new Hegins Township Municipal Building to see if that building’s design would suit the township. The current township building was built in 2007.
He expressed optimism that the two projects could start this year.
Argall and Watro both asked questions of gathered officials and commended the township’s progress.
