Winter Storm Warning issued for Schuylkill, Luzerne; Borough issues snow emergency

SHENANDOAH – Up to a foot of snow is possible this weekend as the region is under a Winter Storm Warning.

The National Weather Service at State College issued the warning for Schuylkill County for 5am Sunday to 1pm Monday, with heavy snow likely.

More than six inches to a foot of snow could fall on the area with 40mph wind gusts Sunday night, the NWS says.

Snowfall could exceed an inch per hour at times and hazardous travel conditions are expected.

The National Weather Service at Binghamton also declared a Winer Storm Warning for Luzerne County.

Columbia and Northumberland Counties are under a Winter Storm Watch with snow of between three and eight inches possible.

Snow Emergencies Declared

Shenandoah Borough declared a snow emergency effective 11pm Saturday through 6pm Monday.

No parking is permitted on Main Street for the entire length and on Centre Street in the downtown corridor, from White Street to West Street.

All vehicles must be removed from alleyways, as well. Vehicles will be ticketed and towed.

Mahanoy City Borough is also implementing a snow ban beginning at 8am Sunday through noon Monday.

All vehicles must be moved from Centre, Main, and South Streets, as well as Liberty Hill.

Conyngham Borough in Luzerne County is implementing a snow parking ban beginning 8am Sunday through the duration of the storm. No parking is allowed on Main Street for the duration.
