Downtown storefront’s basement found flooded; Aqua handles main break out front

SHENANDOAH – The lower level of a former department store in the heart of down was under eight feet of water Wednesday as crews continued to search for the cause of the water woes in Shenandoah.
The basement of the former Woolworth’s department store, later Family Dollar and Lightning Rent-to-Own, on North Main Street was submerged, Shenandoah Borough Manager Mike Cadau told the Sentinel Wednesday evening.

Crews from Aqua Pennsylvania began work on a busted water main on North Main Street outside the business through the overnight hours.

In an update, Cadau said he was “cautiously optimistic” as crews discovered the issue and another lead on the east end of town, near the former Shenandoah Abbatoir.
