Centralia keeps up Christmas tradition

CENTRALIA – Often referred to as a ghost town, this community in Columbia County still has a handful of residents who not only make up a functioning borough government, but also continue to spread Christmas cheer in what used to be downtown.

This is the scene at Locust and Centre Streets in downtown Centralia.

While state government flattened all but a handful of homes for a mine fire now primarily burning on the outskirts of town, the community has kept up a Christmas tradition.

Typical pole-mounted decorations adorn utility poles at each corner of Centre and Locust in the heart of town.

At the northwest corner, a Christmas tree and a manger is also present.
