MAIZEVILLE – One person is being assisted by the American Red Cross after a fire in this section of Gilberton late Friday night.
Firefighters were called to a home at 1019 Main Street just after 11pm for a reported structure fire.
Continental Fire Co. Chief Frank Jackowiak told the Sentinel crews arrived to find the second floor of the home aflame with fire showing through the roof.
He said one person was home at the time and escaped without injury. She is being assisted by the American Red Cross, he said.
No firefighters were injured.

A State Police fire marshal was on scene and Jackowiak said the fire’s cause is undetermined.
A tanker task force was called along with the first alarm assignment.
Along with Gilberton firefighters, crews responded from Shenandoah, Mahanoy City, Frackville, Englewood, Girardville, Ringtown, Gordon, and more.
