Shenandoah man charged with child abuse in Carbon County

TRESCKOW, Carbon County – A Shenandoah man is in Carbon County prison, facing child abuse charges stemming from incidents occurring in the spring.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Hazleton, a child abuse investigation began in July 2018, and two children, ages 5 and 7, were forensically interviewed by the Scranton Child Advocacy Center. The two made disclosures relating to physical and sexual abuse, allegedly by their mother’s ex-boyfriend, at a home on Market Street in Tresckow.
Two month’s prior, the victims’ mother and the accused, Curtis M. Berger, 26, of Shenandoah, separated, and the children felt comfortable coming forth to tell their mother about the abuse.
An interview was conducted, and according to troopers, Berger made multiple admissions corroborating the victims’ accounts.
Berger faces charges of Aggravated Indecent Assault, Indecent Assault, Corruption of Minors, and Unlawful Contact with a Minor. He was arraigned and committed to Carbon County Prison, failing to post $75,000 bail.
