Bystander sitting on porch shot when gunfight breaks out

WEST HAZLETON – A West Hazleton man is facing charges after police say he shot someone sitting on their porch during a gunfight with someone else.

Guillermo Ventura, 21, is facing felony aggravated assault and discharge of a firearm charges along with misdemeanor reckless endangerment and propulsion of missiles onto roadways.

According to West Hazleton Police, officers were called to the area of Warren Street for a reported shooting on Wednesday.

There, two men had been involved in an altercation and a brief gunfight ensued, officers said. A bystander sitting on their porch with no association to the altercation was shot, police said.

Ventura, police said, fired the shot that struck the bystander and had struck occupied buildings across the street as well. He was taken into custody and charged.
