ENGLEWOOD – The Schuylkill County Firemen’s Association Convention is up north this year as the Friendship Fire Co. of Englewood plays host as they celebrate their centennial.
Festivities for the 71st annual convention kick off this Sunday with a memorial service at 5pm at St. Michael The Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church on South 2nd Street in Frackville.
“The Friendship Fire Company will will honor the memory of Schuylkill County Firefighters that have passed since the last convention, Schuylkill County Firefighters lost in the Line of Duty, and Friendship Fire Company and Ladies Auxiliary members who have passed since the Fire Co.’s last anniversary,” the company says. “Join clergy from the Frackville area and the Chaplin of the Schuylkill County Volunteer Firefighters Association, as well as a children’s choir, bell choir, and bagpipes.”
Refreshments will be served afterwards at the firehouse on North 7th Street.
Family Night is Tuesday from 6pm to 8pm at the Frackville Memorial Park, and a mug night at the firehouse is Thursday at 7pm.
The parade — always one of Schuylkill County’s biggest of the year — is Saturday, August 16 at 1pm.
“The 71st Schuylkill County Volunteer Firefighters’ Association Convention parade promises an extraordinary display of dedication and spirit, celebrating the volunteer fire service in Schuylkill County,” the fire department says. “The parade highlights a multitude of antique and in-service fire apparatus and includes various fire department marching units, and a variety of marching bands.”
It will make its way through the Frackville area. The parade starts at the Memorial Park complex at Line and Hickory, proceeding past the firehouse and onto 7th Street southbound to Spring, turning left to take Spring Street into town, right onto Balliet to Arch, right onto Arch, right onto South 2nd, and a left onto Frack to the end at 7th Street.

If you have to head through Frackville from Ashland and points west, Route 61 will be detoured via 3rd, Laurel, Spruce, and Balliet.
