HOW YOU CAN HELP: Basket raffle planning underway for victims of Shenandoah tragedy
SHENANDOAH – One of the worst tragedies in recent memory in our valley took place last week, and now a community effort is ramping up to help those affected. You, too, can help out.
A basket raffle is being organized for the benefit of the Chernewski family which lost their patriarch — Tom ‘Cosmo’ Chernewski — and step-sister — Harley Reese — in Thursday’s triple-shooting on West Centre Street.
It is scheduled for August 3 in Mahanoy City at a location to be announced.
Chernewski, a 1979 Shenandoah Valley graduate, was a well-known plumber in town. Reese was a 2011 Shenandoah Valley graduate and a devoted and caring mother to her son, Jaxon, according to her obituary.
Heather O’Connell, of Shenandoah Heights, a cousin of the family, is organizing the effort and is seeking donations of baskets, gift cards, or gift certificates. All proceeds, she said, go to the family.
If you’re interested in donating, reach out to Heather on Facebook or reach out to the Sentinel via any contact method — social media, our email at [email protected], or the contact form — and we will pass word along.
A GoFundMe has also been set up to benefit the family.
