HS SOFTBALL: Spartans take down Golden Bears, 23-2

MAHANOY CITY – The North Schuylkill Spartans softball squad took down Mahanoy Area in five innings Tuesday afternoon.
Mahanoy Area entered the game 2-0 while North Schuylkill entered 2-1.
North Schuylkill scored early and often, earning eight runs in the first inning to Mahanoy Area’s two.
Those two runs for the Golden Bears would be all Mahanoy could muster as North Schuylkill pulled away, taking a 23-2 advantage after five innings, ending the game.
The Spartans had 12 hits, led by Maria Monahan, Olivia Jones, and Lyza Holmes with two apiece. Holmes led with four RBIs as well.
Brigid Flynn had six strikeouts on the mound for the Spartans.
Mahanoy Area had five hits.
