West Mahanoy approves tentative 2025 budget with no tax increase
SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – Taxes are expected to remain level once again in West Mahanoy Township.
At last Tuesday’s regular meeting, West Mahanoy Township supervisors approved the tentative 2025 budget balanced at $2,059,120.
The budget keeps taxes at 7.15 mills and the tax rate has not changed since 2012, when taxes rose by two mills.
“The reason we increased it back then was because of insurance,” Supervisors Chairman Paul “Pepper” Martin said. “It’s 13 years since we raised our taxes, I think that’s a pretty good job keeping within our budget.”
Martin said that West Mahanoy’s sewer bill will go up by $2, the first increase in three years by the township.
“We still have a $5 Million loan to pay out,” Martin said, noting 17 years remain of the 30 year term.
The budget will be up for final approval on Dec. 17 at 7pm at the township building in Shenandoah Heights.
In other business, supervisors approved a pay increase for newly elected supervisors from $120 per meeting to $200 per meeting. Martin said it’s the first in 20 years.
Supervisors also approved a handicap parking application from Weston Place.
