Overheated chimney to blame for South Bower row home fire

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - Heavy smoke envelopes a row of homes on South Bower Street.

SHENANDOAH – Monday night’s fire on the east end has been ruled accidental, caused by an overheated chimney.

A State Police fire marshal was on site Tuesday morning to investigate.

The blaze broke out around 10pm and was originally dispatched as a chimney fire at 5 South Bower. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke showing from the row home and shortly after, flames enveloped the rear of the home.

No injuries were reported and three people were displaced. Three homes were damaged.

Several cats were rescued from the home, though specifics on how many were inside at the time of the fire are not yet available.
