SV holds line on taxes in final 2024-25 budget
SHENANDOAH – Taxes are staying level in the Shenandoah Valley School District.
The school board approved the 2024-25 final operating budget at Wednesday night’s meeting.
The $25,122,285 budget keeps real estate taxes steady at 56.975 mills.
Taxes have not been raised since the 2016-17 school year.
Shared real estate taxes and wage taxes remain at 1%. A $5 local services tax, $5 per ton tax for fly ash disposal, and a 5% tax on culm processing also remain.
In other business, the school board re-appointed Leslie Gilroy as treasurer for the 2024-25 school year.
The position comes with a $1,200 annual stipend, which she will donate back to the school. Half will go to the band, and half to the drama club.
In other business, the board approved:
- Two PSBA developed policies;
- Veronica Singh/Schuylkill County Guest Teacher Program;
- Gary Allegretta as Audio Visual Technical Advisor;
- Christine Horwath as Alternative Education Coordinator;
- Posting and advertising for an elementary art teacher;
- The following hires for the 2024-25 school year:
- Mary Pleva as a High School Emotional Support Teacher at a salary of $75,200;
- Serina Sherwood as an ESL teacher at a salary of $47,760;
- The Class of 2024;
- Extended School Year staff;
- Various contracts;
- Salary increases for the following personnel:
- Act 93;
- Bus Mechanic;
- Bus and Van Drivers;
- Kim Mentusky;
- Substitute Staff/Support Staff;
- A $50 ad in the Jerry Wolman Hall of Fame program;
- M&T and First National Bank as official 2024-25 school depositories;
- The transfer of $20,000 from the cafeteria account to the summer lunch account;
- The repository sale of the former Martin Shirt Co. building to Shenandoah Borough for $1;
- The following 2024-25 band staff and salaries:
- John Shoener, director of bands, $4,450;
- Britney Bidding, assistant band director, $1,400;
- Christopher Circelli, assistant band director, $1,200;
- Robert Nowak, percussion instructor, $1,000;
- Gina Miscannon, flag instructor, $1,000;
- Jennifer Selbi, flag instructor, $500;
- Craig Shoener, volunteer band assistant;
- A letter of resignation from Lynn Simone Zbyradowski, 3-hour kitchen aide;
- The following support staff appointments:
- Megan Cantwell, Full-time Paraprofessional;
- Anna-Liza Caporusso, Full-time Paraprofessional;
- Benedelcia De Aza, Full-time Housekeeping (retroactive to May 13, 2024);
- Allen Engle, paraprofessional/bus driver;
- Selena Gamez, Full-time Paraprofessional;
- Joann Hartz, Full-time Housekeeping (retroactive to May 13, 2024);
- Brittney Hixson, Full-time Housekeeping (retroactive to May 13, 2024);
- Alexandra Lora, Substitute Housekeeping (retroactive to May 20, 2024);
- Barbara Mejia, Full-time Housekeeping (retroactive to May 13, 2024);
- Alisha Rodriguez, Full-time Paraprofessional;
