SHENANDOAH – One of the “Kielbasi Kings” of Shenandoah is this year’s grand marshal for the Parade of Nations.

David “Lucky” Lukashunas, owner of Lucky’s Corner Deli and Kielbasi Shop on the west end, was named as the grand marshal by Downtown Shenandoah, Inc. for the parade set for May 18.

Lukashunas, of Shenandoah Heights, has owned the deli since 1998.

It first opened in a small space at Centre and Vine, across Vine from RJ’s Bar, in 1998 before relocating to the former NAPA down the street in 2007, where they are currently located.

The shop has a drive-thru and restaurant seating, serving up hoagies, sandwiches, and more along with ethnic and unique favorites.

Lukashunas also works as the building and grounds supervisor at the Shenandoah Valley School District, where he has supervised various improvements, including the renovation and restoration of various facets of infrastructure, as well as the bathroom building at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

He is also an avid volunteer, giving time to the Frackville Masonic Lodge, the Rajah Shrine of Reading, the Roaring Creek Forest Preserve, Shenandoah Fish and Game, and more.

“Lucky is always there to lend a helping hand,” said Anne Taylor, DSI board of directors. “His behind-the-scenes volunteer activity and contributions to the Shenandoah community have truly made a lasting impact on many.”

The Parade of Nations kicks off this year’s combined Kielbasi Fest/Heritage Day event, which draws thousands to downtown Shenandoah each year. The parade steps off at 10am.
