Borough hires full-time, part-time cops, loses full-time cop, seeks more full-time cops
SHENANDOAH – The borough police force here, at Monday night’s council meeting, gained a full-time and part-time police officer, lost a full-time officer, and is continuing to seek more full-time officers.
At the request of Mayor Andrew Szczyglak and Law & Order Committee Chairman Michael Whitecavage, council approved the hiring of Mindy Petrus as a full-time officer.
Council also approved a motion to cover the cost of a vest and speed equipment training for her.
Szczyglak also suggested, on behalf of Chief George Carado, that they hire Cristian Vasquez as a part-time officer. He is currently a full-time officer in Catawissa.
Council also accepted the resignation of Hugh Clinton as a full-time patrolman. He was first hired as a part-timer last March and his resignation is effective March 1.
The borough is also seeking applicants for full-time patrolman for civil service testing.
Applications can be obtained at borough hall, 15 West Washington Street, Monday through Friday from 10am to 2pm.
The deadline for the applications to be submitted is Friday, March 1 at 4pm.
Council also approved seeking bids to rehabilitate the police station, which Council President Joe Boris says is in rough shape.
“It definitely needs an overhaul,” Boris said.
Captain Travis Bowman also provided an update on the police force’s body cameras. The cameras have been received, but the software has not been set up yet.
