YOUTH FOOTBALL: Jr. Devils split playoff games; A’s defeat Mahanoy, B’s fall to Blue Mtn.
SHENANDOAH – One Shenandoah youth football team is moving on in playoffs and another’s season ended Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Both the Mini-A and Mini-B Junior Blue Devil squads won the North division of the Tri-County Youth Football League and made the league’s playoffs.
Mini-A is the eldest division in local youth football, with players up to 6th grade and 13 years old. Mini-B players are no older than 10 and no higher than 4th grade.
Shenandoah hosted the quarterfinal games for both squads Saturday, with the Mini-B team facing Blue Mountain and the Mini-A team facing Mahanoy Area, a rematch of last week’s game.
In Mini-B, Blue Mountain dominated on offense, taking an early lead, and the Eagles offense held the Devils scoreless to secure a 20-0 victory to move on to the semifinals. The Devils Mini-B squad concluded their season 5-4.
In Mini-A, it was the Devils squad which found a spark on offense, defeating the Bears 22-0. They improve to 8-1 and, more importantly, are moving on to the semifinals.
Who they face, when, and where will depend on the outcome of the remaining semifinal games later this weekend.
