Fire damages New Philly row homes

NEW PHILADELPHIA – At least two homes were destroyed and another had smoke damage after a fire in this Schuylkill Valley town Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to Water Street around 4pm for a reported house fire.

Heavy fire could be seen from 38 Water Street when crews arrived and a second alarm was struck.

Homes at 38 Water Street and 36 Water Street had heavy fire damage while 40 Water Street had smoke damage, fire officials said.

No injuries were reported. Fire officials did not share how many people were displaced, but said 36 Water Street was a vacant home and 38 Water Street was occupied.

Firefighters from across the Schuylkill Valley and beyond assisted New Philadelphia firefighters, including crews from Middleport, Kaska, Tamaqua, Tuscarora, Pottsville, McAdoo, Schuylkill Haven, Ryan Township, Minersville, Palo Alto, Port Carbon, and more.
