Zoners approve proposed convenience store in Minersville

POTTSVILLE – A long-vacant car lot could become a drive-thru convenience store soon, clearing an early hurdle Monday night.
The Schuylkill County Zoning Hearing Board heard a request for a special exception in the third of three hearings at the courthouse Monday night.
19507 Realty, LLC, is seeking approval to construct an “auto service station” with a drive-thru at 610 Sunbury Street in Minersville.
Represented by John Hampton, Gavinder Singh represented the company in testimony.
The property is the former Kozura Motor Company.
Singh testified that his company plans to raze the existing car dealership building and build a 6,000 square foot convenience store and gas station. The shop will likely include a drive-thru and six gas dispensers, he said.
Minersville Borough currently owns the property and has an agreement of sale with Singh’s company.
Minersville Mayor Sean Palmer told the board that the borough acquired the property for blight abatement. He said the Kozura family turned the property over.
“As we all know, our small boroughs and townships are struggling with blighted properties and redevelopment and I think it’s a blessing in disguise that Mr. Singh is able to take over this property and develop a nice gas station, coffee shop, and mart,” Palmer said.
The facility would have about seven employees, Singh said.
The zoning board unanimously approved the special exception.
Numerous approvals are still needed before construction can begin.
