Work wraps up on Girard Manor Road paving in E. Union; update provided on Pumpy efforts
SHEPPTON – Paving work on a stretch of Girard Manor Road between its namesake village and Phinneyville is done, and work on the Pumping Station Dam effort will ramp back up in the spring, according to updates given at East Union Township Supervisors.
The township’s engineer said at last Thursday’s meeting that the paving project on Girard Manor Road is done and the work was done properly, according to his inspection.
The second part of that project, the paving of Second Blvd. in Brandonville along with drainage work, will be done in the spring.
Supervisor Kyle Mummey asked about work on the planned park near the American Legion in Sheppton, asking about what work had been done and how it was billed. Mummey said he had been informed DCNR had not been contacted in a year for the work.
In other business, an update was provided on the Pumping Station Dam, or Pumpy, project.
Rick Grabosky, one of the volunteers for the group spearheading the effort, said they applied for a grant to install a well and a pavilion.
Supervisors Chair Jill Careyva asked if Shenandoah borough, the owner of the dam, is helping.
“They are, Shenandoah helped us with the grant,” Grabosky said. “Dave Sarno went over there, sat with Tony Sajone (borough manager) and they worked on that.”
“Now, it’s pretty cold, everybody’s out hunting and stuff, there’s not much going on down there right now,” Grabosky added. “A lot of behind the scenes work going on. In springtime, we’ll be hitting it hard again.”
In other business, Mummey provided an update on the ongoing DCED police survey.
He said the police side of the survey is done, and the treasurer’s portion is still pending.
Supervisors also approved the 2024 budget with no tax increase.
