Woman struck, killed by vehicle in Ashland
ASHLAND – A 71-year-old Ashland woman is dead after State Police say she was struck by a passing Jeep on Centre Street.
The crash happened around 6:15pm in the 1600 block of Centre Street.
State Police at Frackville said a 71-year-old woman was crossing Centre Street near Turkey Hill without yielding to traffic. She was not within a crosswalk, troopers said.
She stepped into the path of a 2020 Jeep Wrangler, troopers said, which tried to swerve to avoid her but to no avail.
The woman was thrown and sustained fatal injuries, troopers said.
Troopers blacked out her name in a press release regarding the incident.
The driver of the Jeep was also not identified.
Ashland firefighters assisted at the scene and Centre Street was closed to traffic for about an hour and a half.
