Vehicle fire closes Route 924 atop Locust Mountain

UNION TOWNSHIP – A vehicle fire closed Route 924 between the Pattersonville wye intersection and Brandonville Friday evening.
A Jeep Commander ascending Locust Mountain, travelling southbound towards Shenandoah, caught fire midway up the hill in Union Township between the East Union and West Mahanoy Township lines.
The driver was unharmed in the incident, but the Jeep suffered heavy damage in the blaze.

Firefighters from Shenandoah Heights responded and tackled the fire.
Assisting were crews from Shenandoah Ambulance and Shenandoah Police.
State Police at Frackville are investigating, and Steve’s Towing removed the vehicle.
