POTTSVILLE – Planning is often the key to resiliency, and the Schuylkill County Emergency Management Agency, Planning and Zoning, and Conservation District are working together toward that goal.

The last update to the Schuylkill County Hazard Mitigation Plan was six years ago and it expires in March.

“This Hazard Mitigation Plan is the outcome of a planning process that advances Schuylkill County’s resilience,” the county said in a release. “It will be our strategy to prevent loss of life; minimize or avoid property damage to homes and businesses; reduce business interruption and revenue loss; reduce emergency response and recovery costs; attract new businesses and residents; protect the resources which make Schuylkill County special; and build a sense of peace of mind.”

“This plan will not be a report that sits on a shelf; it’s a way of proactively protecting ourselves against hazards, building self-sufficiency and becoming more sustainable,” the county added. “Schuylkill County is our home – what an opportunity we have to collectively help our communities be stronger and economically vibrant.”
