Union supervisors increase library donation by $2k to $7,500

RINGTOWN – The Ringtown Area Library is getting a funding boost from Union Township.

At Tuesday night’s monthly meeting, township supervisors approved a request from the library to increase the township’s donation by $2,000.

That brings the township’s donation to $7,500. The library, based on Main Street in Ringtown, offers a wide variety of community programs and is one of only two libraries in the Ringtown Valley area, the other being the Nuremberg branch of the Hazleton library.

The increase was approved after a short discussion.

In other business, supervisors discussed a request for the township to take over ownership of the portion of 9th Street in Union Township. The street, which is part of a housing development and ends in a cul-de-sac, is currently owned by Charles and Bernard Bann.

“He’s requesting that the township take it over,” Solicitor Robert Matta said. “The plus side is, we’d get liquid fuels money.”

The road is maintained by Ringtown Borough currently, including the Union Township portion.

In other business, the township approved the hiring of Ryan Briggs. Supervisor David Briggs abstained from the vote.
