Two vehicles disabled after West Mahanoy crash

SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – Two vehicles are disabled, and a Shenandoah man suffered cuts to his hands after a vehicle accident near Shenandoah Heights Wednesday morning.
According to State Police at Frackville, the incident occurred around 11:00am in the area of the Valley Tastee Freeze, when John E. Guers, 83, of Shenandoah, attempted to move his vehicle from a parking lot on the northbound side of Route 924 to one on the southbound side.
Guers pulled his 2001 Chevy Malibu into the roadway, in the path of a northbound 2005 Peterbilt haul truck, driven by Rocco Petrone, 24, of Weatherly, Carbon County.
Petrone locked up the brakes on the haul truck and swerved into the southbound lane to avoid Guers, but to no avail.
The front right corner of the haul truck struck the left front of the Malibu. The haul truck continued a short distance , striking a roadside berm with its left side on the southbound side of Route 924.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged and disabled.
Both drivers were seatbelted at the time of the collision.
Guers suffered cuts on his hands, and complained of shoulder pain, and was treated at the scene by Shenandoah Community Ambulance.
