Tuscarora beach closes temporarily; Locust Lake remains open

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - A sign warns visitors that the Tuscarora State Park beach is closed to swimming on May 30, 2024.

BARNESVILLE – Days after it opened for the season, the Tuscarora State Park beach is closed to swimming.

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) closed the beach down Wednesday because of water resampling requirements.

It had just opened for the season on May 24.

With that opening, DCNR had warned that water testing would be done weekly and could result in temporary closures.

Other activities at Tuscarora State Park, such as camping, picnicking, hiking and fishing are proceeding as usual, DCNR says.

Just down the road, the Locust Lake State Park beach remains open. Some folks were taking advantage of it when the Sentinel stopped by Thursday afternoon.

Though, due to construction, you’ll have to walk to the beach, as vehicle access is unavailable due to construction.
