SHENANDOAH – The Shenandoah helipad has a fresh coat of paint, thanks to volunteers from the Shenandoah Valley High School and Lowes.

The school district partnered with the Lowes location near Pottsville to repaint the large cross at the east end of East Washington Street, through the Lowes Heroes program.

The program provides materials for worthwhile projects benefiting local communities. For the Shenandoah helipad, Lowes donated 15 gallons of paint, painting utensils, and caulking to patch cracks on the tarmac.

The project was coordinated by borough fire chief Russ Schumack, who is also a science teacher at SV, Rick Examitas, borough fire marshal, and SV public relations director Bob Yudinsky.

Participating students included Alan Zamudio, Gabe Hepler, Victoria Donovan, Angelena Donovan, and Jacob Wachhaus.
