Submerged bumper causes alarm in Frailey

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - Donaldson firefighters and first responders at the entrance to a stripping pit on June 24, 2020.
FRAILEY TWP. – A bumper submerged in a water-filled stripping pit caused alarm in this western Schuylkill township Wednesday afternoon.
Schuylkill Haven’s dive team and firefighters from Donaldson were called to a stripping pit between Donaldson and Good Spring around 2:30pm for a possible vehicle accident with water rescue.

Donaldson firefighters arrived along with Tremont Ambulance.
Fire officials said a caller spotted the bumper and, with limited visibility beneath the water’s surface, coupled with an ongoing missing person situation, they assumed a vehicle had driven in without realizing the depth of the water. The caller could not see deep enough beneath the surface to see the vehicle itself.

Schuylkill Haven’s dive team was requested as a precaution, and firefighters confirmed the visible portion of the vehicle — the bumper — was the only portion, and all first responders were clear of the scene within about an hour.
