Sentinel Staff Reports
HAZLETON, Luzerne County – A Hazleton woman was shot in the arm in her sleep early this morning, when a bullet apparently came through her second floor bedroom wall.
Hazleton Police responded to the area of 600 North James Street around 4:00am this morning for reports of shots fired, and moments later, were called to a home in the 800 block of the same road for a gunshot victim.
There, an unidentified woman was awoken by a possible gunshot and a “sudden pain in her upper arm,” Hazleton Police said in a release. The 25-year-old woman was bleeding from the upper arm when officers arrived, and first aid was administered.
She was taken to a local hospital by APTS for treatment.
Officers canvassed the area and checked the interior of the home, finding no firearms.
According to police, the investigation is ongoing, and it appears the gunshot came from outside the home. A hole in the plaster by the victim’s bed was found, as were burn and lead marks on a tree near the home.
“We will vigorously pursue those responsible,” Chief Jerry Speziale said in the release.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Hazleton police.
