Shenandoah Heights woman receives Penn State scholar award

STATE COLLEGE, Centre County – A Shenandoah Heights resident and Shenandoah Valley graduate has been awarded the Evan Pugh Scholar Award at Penn State.

Alaina Demalis, a junior Schreyer Honors student at the Pennsylvania State University majoring in kinesiology, has received the award for her 4.0 cumulative GPA.

The Evan Pugh scholars are juniors seniors who are in the upper 0.5 percent of their respective classes and have completed at least 48 graded Penn State credits at the end of the fall semester of the academic year in which the award is given.

Candidates are eligible if they have been full time Penn State undergraduate students for at least four semesters prior to selection. The juniors this year have cumulative grade point averages of 3.98 and above. Eighty-seven students received this award.

Alaina was Valedictorian of the Shenandoah Valley Class of 2016, a member of the SV Chapter of the National Honor Society and the daughter of Anthony and Judy Demalis, Shenandoah Heights.
