Shenandoah Fire Dept. awarded nearly $30k in grants; township gets $28k
SHENANDOAH – Fire companies in the Greater Shenandoah Area were awarded a combined nearly $60k, state legislators announced Tuesday.
They are among 24 agencies in the 116th Legislative District receiving grants from the 2023-24 Pennsylvania Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program.
Rep. Dane Watro (R-Luzerne/Schuylkill) and Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) announced the recipients for Watro’s district today. The Office of State Fire Commissioner has not yet announced the total list.
Two fire companies in the Shenandoah Fire Department are receiving grants: the Phoenix Fire Company is getting $13,840 and the Rescue Hook and Ladder Company is getting $15,396.
Shenandoah Ambulance is also receiving $45,000.
In West Mahanoy Township, the Heights Fire Company is getting $13,256 and the William Penn Fire Company is getting $14,229.
The Heights Fire Co. says they will use the grant to replace hoselines.
“We are grateful for our hardworking and dedicated first responders, who do an amazing job protecting lives and property in communities across the region,” said Watro. “This annual program provides some much-needed financial assistance so they can continue providing their life-saving services.”
“I’m thankful so many local fire and EMS companies were awarded these highly competitive funds,” said Argall. “These grants are well-deserved and will help our brave first responders with their critically important and dangerous jobs.”
The ongoing funding program was created by the General Assembly. All grants are generated from slot machine gaming proceeds, and not General Fund tax revenue.
