SHENANDOAH – Rite Aid Corporation, with four northern Schuylkill locations, will soon merge with Idaho-based Albertsons Companies, one of the nation’s largest grocery retailers, according to a media release.
Included in the merger are the Rite Aid locations in Shenandoah, Ashland, Mahanoy City, and Frackville.
“Upon completion of the merger, the combined company will continue to operate Rite Aid stand-alone pharmacies as Rite Aid pharmacies. Additionally, most Albertsons Companies pharmacies will be rebranded as Rite Aid,” said Rite Aid media contact Ashley Flower. “Taking care of customers and patients is a top priority. Today, customers can expect their Rite Aid stores to continue normal business operations as they prepare to become a part of Albertsons Companies. Rite Aid and Albertsons will work together to ensure a smooth transition as the companies integrate, working hard to maintain customer and patient trust every step of the way.”
The merged company will operate 4,900 locations, 4,350 pharmacy counters, and 320 clinics across 38 states and Washington, D.C., serving 40+ million customers per week, according to the media release.
“This combination enables us to become a truly differentiated leader in delivering value, choice, and flexibility to meet customers’ evolving food, health, and wellness needs,” said Rite Aid Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John Standley in the release. “The combined platform positions Rite Aid to capitalize on our pharmacy expertise and expand and enhance our pharmacy footprint.”
Currently, Albertsons Companies operate stores across 35 states and the District of Columbia under banners including Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s, Acme, Tom Thumb, Randalls, United Supermarkets, Pavilions, Star Market, Haggen and Carrs, as well as meal kit company Plated based in New York City.
According to the Albertsons Companies website, there are currently no stores under their ownership in Schuylkill County, and the nearest such store to our area, a Safeway, is located in Wilmington, Delaware.
