RINGTOWN – The Ringtown Area Library announced Monday a new community outreach program, helping connected children and adults to reading and the outdoors, all in the same motion.

The library is launching a StoryWalk initiatve, first launched by Anne Ferguson, of Vermont.

The StoryWalk initiative involves laminated pages of a children’s book placed on stakes along a walking path, often in a park. In Ringtown’s case, the pages of the first book, Bounce, are in the grassy area along the parking lot for St. John’s Lutheran Church, 106 West Main.

The initiative is being undertaken via a grant from the Schuylkill Area Community Foundation, and the library planes to display at least three different stories in three different locations in the Ringtown Valley.

“Most stories feature an active element to encourage kids and families to act out the motions of the story,” the library wrote in a release. “Follow the library’s Facebook page for updates on when and where upcoming StoryWalks® will occur. We hope to have each story up for a period of 1 to 2 weeks to allow families ample time to get out and enjoy this active literacy outreach effort.”

Bounce will be displayed from June 29 to July 3, and July 6 to July 11.
