Recycling to be collected this Friday in Shenandoah
SHENANDOAH – Recycling will be collected Friday, June 23, in Shenandoah.
Typically, recycling is collected on the second Friday of the month.
Councilman John Thomas said at Monday’s council meeting that recycling was pushed back, first because of thick smoke from Canadian wildfires blanketing the region, and the week after because of a mechanical issue with the truck.
Glass and plastic items are accepted and do not need to be kept separate.
Shenandoah’s recycling program restarted earlier this yea. At first, only plastic bottles were collected, and the borough planned to review the program every few months and expand it when possible.
Council said previously that the program could save the borough, with exorbitant tipping fees rising at local waste transfer stations.
