Rain breaks for North Schuylkill graduation parade
CENTRALIA, Columbia County – The North Schuylkill Class of 2020, like other schools, held a graduation parade today to try to celebrate in lieu of a formal, traditional commencement ceremony.
The parade began at its scheduled time of 3:00pm, with district officials saying in advance the event would be held rain or shine. Thankfully, the rain passed by just before the parade began.
Graduates boarded several Rohrer buses and vans to ride in the parade, which formed at the Schuylkill County Fire Training Center in West Mahanoy Township, east of Frackville. Some grads, instead, chose to ride on the fire engines of their respective company’s, such as Lavelle or Ringtown Valley.
The parade began by travelling through Frackville borough westbound towards Fountain Springs, passing by the high school before heading to Gordon. From there, the parade passed through Locustdale, Ashland, and Girardville before doubling back and heading through Big Mine Run and Centralia, bound for Aristes.
From Aristes, the parade made its way to Ringtown, where it concluded.
Participating in the parade along with the graduates were the Goodwill Fire Co. of Frackville, Friendship Fire Co. of Englewood, Rangers Fire Co. of Girardville, Aristes Fire Co., Citizens Fire Co. of Gordon, Lavelle Fire Co., T-102 Radio, among others.
