State Police at Schuylkill Haven were called to a wooded area near Peach Mountain Road around 9:30am to investigate an accidental shooting.
Troopers say the shooting occurred around 5:30pm Sunday when the victim, a 72-year-old man, was sleeping in a chair, and awoke to gunshots.
That’s when the man was struck in the leg by a small caliber round, troopers said.
The man reported seeing two males across a pond after he was shot, one of whom had a rifle described as “AR-15 style.”
The pair are described as being in their late 20’s or early 30’s, one of whom had a dark colored beard and the other had no facial hair and “sandy” colored hair.
The pair offered no assistance to the victim “after apparently shooting him by mistake,” troopers said, and fled the scene.
The victim was in full camouflage at the time of the incident.
Troopers said the shooting is believed to be accidental in nature.
The victim was found this morning by two hikers in the area and was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest in Lehigh County for treatment.
