PSP: Mahanoy woman cited for crash near Hazle Township park
HAZLE TOWNSHIP – A Mahanoy City woman was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign and driving without a license after a Christmas Eve crash here.
State Police at Hazleton said Thursday that the crash happened around 6pm on Christmas Eve at Pecora Boulevard and Appian Way.
Troopers said Katie Peel, 36, of Mahanoy City, was headed west on Pecora in a 2017 Jeep Compass approaching a 4-way stop sign.
Richard Marchetti, 56, of Freeland, approached the intersection from Appian in a 2015 Subaru Legacy, stopped for the stop sign and entered the intersection.
Peel, troopers said, allegedly did not stop for the stop sign and struck Marchetti’s vehicle.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Paul’s Towing.
Troopers said Peel’s passenger — a 10-year-old Mahanoy City girl — and Marchetti’s passenger — 84-year-old Theresa Marchetti, of Freeland — suffered suspected minor injuries but refused transport.
Peel was cited for failing to stop at the stop sign and driving without a license.
Assisting PSP at the scene were units from Lehigh Valley EMS and the Hazle Township Fire Department.
